My involvement in the arts started to grow from a young age. It was only, as soon as I realised what computers could offer, that I started experimenting with Photoshop 4.0. I could say I incorporated a blend of real-life painting and digital art. After constantly exploring the Internet I started experimenting with simple designs for the web, using HTML. Soon after, I realised how much I loved being involved with digital media, and took the decision to leave my native country, Greece, and pursue a degree in Computer Science in England. Obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science meant a lot more than just studying Graphic Design. I had the ability to grasp knowledge from both the areas of multimedia and design, while using programming languages such as PHP anb C++ to make things work.
When I successfully graduated with my BSc. from Brunel University in London, I knew I wanted to work in the web industry, but I wished to take my skills a step further. I decided to apply for a Master's degree in 3D Animation. A computer animation course would allow me to join the 3D industry on either the design or the development side. Also, since the game industry is expanding rapidly, I anticipated that it might be possible for me to combine gaming and the Web. Studying for an MSc. in Computer Animation at Bournemouth University has allowed me to discover powerful tools, such as Maya and RenderMan. Combining these tools with my programming skills was be beneficial in learning how things work behind the scenes. Although I am involved in specific areas of the computer industry, I have to say that just as long as I have my own personal computer, I enjoy working on anything.
To me, learning is not solely academic; I believe a true developer is a constant student. So after working in New York, and now back to London, I can only say that no matter how much you think you know, there is always room for more.
